Personal Statement for the Nomination of CAFA Board of Director
To CAFA Election
Committee and my great friends from local Chinese community,
with profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination as the candidate
for the Board of Director, CAFA.
Firstly, let me express my thanks to the kindness volunteers who accompanied me on
my past service in CAFA, and especially the one who help me to organize many activities
in the past year when I serve for local Chinese community as the president of CAFA.
Secondly, I like to appreciate CAFA honorary members and CAFA Executive Committee
members, who provide financial supports and their dedication to build a strong and
the largest minority ethnic group in RTP, earn a good reputation from our American friends in NC.
At this moment, in this election, I beg your supporting. If you can cast your vote on me, I will
continue to work with new CAFA leaders, and complete what I haven’t finished in the past year.
Meanwhile, I will fully transfer CAFA’s authority to the president-elect, and help new Executive
Committee to set up new working plans.
Once again, thank you very much for nominating me as the Board of Director.

尊敬的华联朋友们：
在华联众多会员的参与下，华联董事会的协助下，华联荣誉会员/商家的赞助下，
我即将完成任期一年华联会长职责。我将毫不保留地将华联的权力，移交给新
选举的会长，并配合其他华联董事成员将我们过去一年里开展但并未完成的活动
项目，继续做好并加以完善，协助新会长制定完成新一年北卡华联的工作计划。
为了帮助华联新执委会的组建，顺利完成领导班子的责任和权力转交，我获提名
参加华联董事会成员的竞选，并希望在任期三年内完成下列工作：
· 继续用自己的热心、为华联会员和社区服务。
· 扩大华联机构，为会员争取更大的利益。利用北卡华联代办签证服务的内容，
扩大华联的影响，建立以三角地区为中心，“放射性”的北卡华联组织，逐渐将
北卡其它地区的华人机构联合在一起，组建“北卡华人联谊会”( 现名：北卡三角
地区华人联谊会) 。
· 协调北卡华联与其他社团的关系，体现出华联的领导能力和组织能力。开展
丰富多样的社团工作，切实贯彻华联的主要宗旨----联络感情，增进友谊，传播
文化，维护权益，融入主流社会，促进文化和科技的交流。
· 继续从自身义务工作做起，希望帮助华联成为美国主流社会受人敬重的社团。
以海外华人的自身优势，为中美两国的科技和教育“建平台，筑桥梁”，服务于两国
间的友好往来。
任华联会长期间，我在众多华联热心者的帮助下，成功地组织了本地区的新春晚会，
与中国驻美大使馆签订了中国签证代办协议，随访北卡华人团体为四川地震灾区
捐款重建学校的落实，组织协调了北卡华联前三次参与北卡州国际节等工作。通过
这些工作，既扩大了华联的影响力，又为会员争取到利益，受到其他社团的尊重，
体现出华联机构的强大和团结。
华人社团的发展和融入当地美国社会，需要很多支持者。过去几年里，我目睹了
华联过去13年的发展，更加感激华联当初的创建者和历届华联热情者的巨大奉献。
本人愿意接受华联成员的提名，竞选华联董事会成员。如果当选，我将继续用
自己的社会公益服务，带动社区的发展，扩大北卡华联的影响力，提高华人在当地
美国社会中的地位，并将北卡华联服务机构逐渐扩大，为更多的华人和美国朋友的
交流提供发展空间。

Biographical Sketch
Xuguang Guo
Xuguang Guo, a Chapel Hill resident, has been an active volunteer at local Chinese Community
since 2002. He worked at Chinese School at Chapel Hill as vice principal and principal, the Secretary
General and vice president of CAFA. Currently, he remains a role to serve the largest ethnic group in
RTP as the president of CAFA. Xuguang came to UNC at Chapel Hill in 1991 to study Public Health.
After he received his Ph.D. in 1998, he works as a senior statistician/scientist at the ASI, Constella
Group, and Westat Inc. in RTP, NC.
郭旭光，1991年来北卡罗莱纳大学公共卫生学院攻读博士。毕业后，曾先后在北卡
三角地区ASI和Constella集团公司任高级研究员。自2008年起，在美国Westat 公司
任高级统计师，从事环境危险因素对慢性病的研究。
本人在完成本职工作之余，积极参与华人社团的发展和建设。先后任教堂山中文学校，
副校长，校长等职。近年来，志愿为华人社区服务，担任北卡华人联谊会副会长、会长。
