(May 3, 2006)

CAFA to Assist Chinese Embassy in Tourist Visa Application and Passport Renewal
The on-spot visa and passport service provided by the Chinese Embassy with CAFA's help last spring was well received here in the Triangle area. Many have asked if the service can be provided again here before the summer tourist season starts. We were told by the Chinese Embassy at D.C. that they will not be able to do it here before summer due to heavy work load the Embassy is experiencing right now. CAFA however has worked out an agreement with the Embassy to let CAFA collect local applications and forward them to the Embassy for formal processing. CAFA's Board of Directors has approved CAFA's assistance in this visa and passport service. CAFA will provide the assistance on Saturday May 6, 2006 at the [1] Raleigh Academy of Chinese Language between 9:30am-12:30pm, and [2] Chinese School at Chapel Hill between 2:00pm-5:00pm.
Details:
- This assistance covers [1] applications for tourist visa to PR China and [2] applications to renew PR China's passport. Other types of visa and passport service other than renewal are not covered;
- In this assistance service CAFA will collect local applicants' [1] valid PR China passports, [2] application forms completed per Chinese Embassy's requirements, [3] fees to the Chinese Embassy per Chinese Embassy for each application, and [4] U.S. FedEx airbills completed per FedEx's requirements;
- This assistance service will be provided to ALL current CAFA members. Visa and passport applications by spouses and children also will be accepted from current members holding a CAFA family membership. CAFA single membership cardholders may submit their own applications befitting their single membership status.
- Those planning to leave for China before June 1, 2006, please submit your visa application directly to the Chinese Embassy for expedient service;
- All application materials including passport, forms, fees, and airbills must be submitted by the applicant at either the [1] Raleigh Academy of Chinese Language between 9:30am-12:30pm, or [2] Chinese School at Chapel Hill between 2:00pm-5:00pm. The entire family's applications [including spouse's and children's] may be submitted once by one parent applicant although each person's application is and will be treated as one, separate case;
- Please consult and download from PR China's official website (http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/) for application procedures, application forms, fee schedule, and other related details and documents. Applicants are responsible for their eligibility to receive the Chinese Embassy's visa and passport service. CAFA is not in any position to check into any applicant's eligibility nor provide any advice in this regard or any related matters;

- A properly completed http://fedex.com/us airbill must accompany each application package. Eligible applicants of one family may include with other materials ONE (1) FedEx envelop and ONE (1) properly completed FedEx airbill for ALL applications and supporting materials. A fee of US$10 per application/passport in check payable to CAFA will be collected at the time of application submission to cover CAFA's cost in handling and forwarding each application/passport to the Embassy;
- CAFA will post updates online. For general questions please contact Mr. CHEN Jian at 968-1022.
